It’s obvious from his attire that he is protecting all of the future, which probably is a nod to the future’s importance in the story and possibly all of history.

The Trunks jacket tells a story. It helps to identify Future Trunks, but more importantly, it shows where he has been and what he has been through. The Capsule Corp. logo represents his family and his mom, and the design of the fabric shows that it has been through the war he has been through.
